What Matters (Updated: August 29, 2018)

SYNOPSIS

Steve Knight plays the insider, politics-as-usual games that represent everything wrong with Washington. When we need him most, Knight puts Washington politics (not the president) and the special interests that fund his campaign ahead of his constituents at home.

ACT 1, PART 1

Voters need to see that Knight said Social Security is a bad idea and he doesn’t support it, even voting for bills that threatened to cut Social Security and could force nearly $500 billion in cuts to Medicare – while having taken more than $200,000 from special interests that benefit from his plan.

PROOF POINTS

Knight said Social Security was a “bad idea”, did not support it. (BACKUP)

ACT 1, PART 2

Democratic and Independent women, especially in the Santa Clarita Valley, need to read that instead of trusting women to make the choice that is right for them, Knight opposes legal abortion in all cases, including rape, incest, and when the life of the woman is in danger. Yet Knight also voted against requiring insurance companies to cover services like maternity care, which would cost women thousands more just for being pregnant.

ACT 1, PART 3

Latinos, African-Americans, and Democratic voters need to read that Knight votes with Donald Trump 99% of the time, including when it’s bad for our community. Knight voted for Trump’s health care and tax plans that raised premiums, gutted protections for pre-existing conditions, and raised taxes on middle-class Californians – all while insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies that sent him hundreds of thousands got tax breaks.

ACT 2

Voters need to see that Knight took more than $61,000 and four Hawaiian getaways paid for by the pharmaceutical industry, and voted against lowering prescription drug costs – while giving the pharmaceutical industry over forty million dollars in tax cuts. And instead of looking out for us, Knight took $147,100 from the insurance industry and went along with his party leaders in voting to increase health insurance premiums and gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

ACT 3

Voters need to see that Knight caved to his political party leaders instead of sticking up for his district, voting for the tax bill that gives huge tax breaks to the big corporations and billionaires who fund his campaign and increases the debt by nearly $2 trillion, and it’s paid for by increasing taxes on everyday Californians and making home ownership more expensive.

PROOF POINTS

Knight caved to his political party leaders and voted to raise taxes on everyday Californians while giving huge tax breaks to the big corporations and billionaires who fund his campaigns. (BACKUP)

Knight’s tax giveaway to corporations and the wealthy adds nearly two trillion dollars to the national debt, while regular people and small businesses pay the price. (BACKUP)

Even though housing and cost of living in California is already unaffordable, Knight’s plan makes it even more expensive – cutting critical tax deductions that increase people’s tax burden and making mortgages more expensive. (BACKUP)
